Treating Addictive Behaviors in Traumatized Adolescents-Lisa Ferentz

Registration begins at 5:00pm on September 21.
**This is a repeat of the training held in May 2012**
It is specifically designed for service providers of high risk adolescents and will highlight new methods and tools of working with this population.
Dates: October 17-18, 8:30-4:30 each day
Registration:
The training is free of charge however registration is required. Space is limited therefore we encourage early registration. Only one (1) registration per email address will be accepted.
Training Location:
The training will be held at the Sheraton Park South located at 9901 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, Va 23235. The contact phone number there is 804-323-1144. Conference rooms tend to be cold, please bring a sweater.
The learning objectives include:
- Identifying at least five red flags that are indicative of early childhood trauma, abuse and neglect.
- Defining the cycle of trauma and addiction.
- Describing at least five “evolving selves’” of adolescence and the challenges that creates for teenagers.
- Identifying at least four “triggers” that leave teenagers overwhelmed or disempowered.
- Identifying and implement at least five creative strategies designed to help adolescents with re-grounding, affect regulation, and containment.
- Describing and implement CARESS- an alternative to standard safety contracts.
- Identifying at least two creative strategies designed to give teenagers a safer way of expressing their unresolved pain.
Certificates of completion will be given at the end of the second day.
Trainer:
The trainer, Lisa Ferentz is the founder and president of Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy Training and Education, Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from SUNY Albany, a master social work degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, and is a Diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association.
She has been in solo private practice for twenty-eight years. Working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, her areas of specialization include: adult children of alcoholics, survivors of emotional, sexual and physical abuse, substance abuse; eating disorders, self-injurious behavior, anxiety, depression, parenting skills, and stress management.
She is a national and international presenter with audiences ranging from clinical social workers to primary care physicians. Lisa is considered an expert in the field of trauma and has published widely on the subject. Her book, Treating Self-Destructive Behaviors in Traumatized Clients: A Clinician’s Guide was available beginning in January 2012.
