I don’t have an exact answer, but doctors can actually prescribe you something that helps I think. I know that some painkillers like Darvocet are used to ween people off drugs because they are easier to quit and help the transition. See a doctor, or tell you “friend” to.

I’m not sure…. It can take days to weeks by my experience, my aunt was a meth addict and she did it around my cousin who also got hooked. It took my cousin about a month but my aunt is still hooked so, I’m sorry, I don’t have an exact answer for you.

Addiction is different for every person. Some people can kick a habit pretty quickly, others it takes years, and can ever be something they deal with the rest of their life. Ultimately, if someone you know is addicted, they need to get help. Try encouraging them to get into counseling/therapy, or join a support group, such as NA (Narcotics Anonymous). Its much easier to get past an addiction if you have support.
Getting into some counseling or therapy will better help this person understand the nature of the addiction, ways to cope, and strategies to use to get past the addiction. Encourage the person to look up counseling referrals in their area, or give our hotline a call and we can look up some referrals for him/her.
Unfortunately, there’s no way of knowing exactly how long until the addiction is overcome, so to speak, because each person handles addictions differently, their body adapts to change differently, and it depends on the duration and length of how long they have been addicted, what type of drug, etc. There are a lot of factors involved. Bottom line: they need help to get past this. Whether its rehab, an inpatient facility, counseling, support groups, whatever, they need support to get through this. Encourage them to seek help. Good luck.
