it is to escape the misery one is in and to achieve euphoria that the person rarely gets in the human experience. thus tricking his mind into thinking that it is good for him and causing his addiction .

Initially, it may be to achieve euphoria but very quickly it becomes to avoid the opposite. Of course, the theory is that it’s really not about the “high” but the secondary gain that one achieve from feeling “high.” (e.g., trying to decrease level of anxiety/depression, trying to forget past trauma). Unfortunately, such escape is quickly achieved but also quite short lived. Not only that, in the end, you end up with greater problems than when you started.
