How Do I Help My Boyfriend Stop Smoking and Be Supportive?

Question by Q: How do I help my boyfriend stop smoking and be supportive?
[rewrite]I don’t date smokers, but before we started, he promised he’d quit smoking for me… Stupid me, that was 6 months ago… He smokes a pack a day, but he rips the filters off the cigarette before he smokes them. I spent a lot of money on patches for him, which really reduced his smoking, but he couldnt even go a day without a cigarette even while wearing a patch. And now he’s back to smoking like he used to. He wants to quit, he even called a quit smoking hotline. He ‘tries’ quitting or at least cutting back pretty often, but nothing really improves. I was very supportive at first always telling him he’s doing a great job when he makes a minor improvement, …but after trying to help so much with no result, I’m starting to give up. It makes me scared because when I lay next to him, I hear his lungs making squeaky noises when he breathes. I know what it’s like to be addicted to something, but why is it so hard for him to NOT go to the store and buy cigarettes…

I’m in Ohio and I Need Help With Insurance and Healthcare/treatment?

Question by Datura: I’m in Ohio and I need help with insurance and healthcare/treatment?
[rewrite]I am 27 yrs old, jobless (disabled) homeless, no car, no license, and now no insurance. Oh yeah, I’m 21 weeks pregnant too. I have been on opiates for over 10 years and now have been trying to get off them for over 1 year, lng before I found out I was pregnant. The problem with being addicted to opiates and being disabled is despite the fact that I have come off of them, and I mean ALL of them, vicodin, percocet, oxy, roxy, etc. *I DO NOT use street drugs, have refused methadone and suboxin and I would rather go to rehab before I would stoop to using heroin or anything; the problem is that the dr’s will only put me back on these drugs or even worse, they won’t put me back on them when I need them. I need surgery on my spine, am trying to get medical assistance and now my prescriptions are due but they cost over $ 500 altogether. I am scared of withdrawing and being pregnant, the dr’s have been slowly weening me but it just isn’t good enough for me (I knew I would wind up in a shituation like this, have no help or support, my family doesn’t know or understand my struggle with these meds and being dependent on them). I need to find healthcare coverage like yesterday and I am also willing to do whatever it takes to further avoid any more problemds from living like this. Any advice helps. It’s butler county by the way.

How to Stop My Friend From Sniffing Dendrite (A Glue Consisting Toluene and Other Intoxicants)?

Question by Shilajit: How to stop my friend from sniffing Dendrite (a glue consisting toluene and other intoxicants)?
[rewrite]Hey guys, I have a friend (Aged 24) who sniffs Dendrite every day. I know him almost 3 years now, and there hasn’t been a single day he didn’t do this thing. Sometimes he sniffs about 4-5 glue tubes a day. By now, he has become a junkie and he admits that he’s addicted. We’re all very concerned about his health as we know permanent brain damage is prevalent among users.
The most interesting part is this, he’s very well-educated and a very talented and struggling guitarist, an intellectual person I’d say, who’s interested in Classical/Jazz/Rock/Metal music and movies, unlike the usual abusers of this drug, who are mostly poor, homeless kids. He refuses to lay off of Dendrite for unknown reasons and we’re all pretty scared about this. Lately, I’ve been feeling his playing skills is lacking perfection. But that’s probably just me, and he isn’t really abnormal in any way and is quite a lovable person.
Rehab isn’t really an option, as the guy I’m talking about lives alone, away from his parents and they probably don’t know anything about this. When I ask him the reasons for sniffing glue, he just tells me that it’s the only thing that keeps his mind away from all the bullshit and depression and frustration, when the truth is, there isn’t really anything so frustrating. So probably he’s just making up excuses for sniffing more?
So, can anyone help me help him?
