Can Weed Substitute the Need for Methadone?
Question by unknown identity: Can weed substitute the need for methadone?
[rewrite]If someone wanted to quit the hard core drugs they were doing, can they just smoke large amounts of weed to keep from getting “sick” and having bad withdrawals? Is there a substitute for methadone? My mom is addicted to crystal meth, I want the best treatment for her whenever I come up with the money to afford it. And I’ve heard that methadone can make things worse for a person.

Would a Doctor Help Me if My Job Causes Severe Muscle and Back Pain?
Question by Mog: Would a doctor help me if my job causes severe muscle and back pain?
I work in a meat market (family business) and 3 days a week I come home in such excruciating pain from lifting thousands of pounds. And every Wednesday I usually get cuts on my fingers from lifting plastic tubs that are filled with meat. The plastic digs into my skin and breaks the skin in one spot on my finger.
On those 3 days a week I get home and I can’t hardly move due to the back pain and muscle pain. Sleeping is becoming very difficult. My back pain wakes me up at 2:00AM and I usually can’t get back to sleep. I’ve taken to drinking a lot of brandy to help the pain, but if I drink enough of it to help then my boss complains about me showing up the next day with alcohol on my breath, and I’m not working as fast as I could be when I’m still a little drunk. Over-the-counter NSAID’s don’t help.
Why Is Drug Addiction Considered a Disease?
Question by fraucarlson: Why is drug addiction considered a disease?
I have a psychological disorder I was born with and inherited. I have a hard time equating what I have as similar to a drug addiction. I didn’t choose my path. So can someone explain to me why it’s considered a disease?

I guess because addictions are mental disorders. When someone is addicted.to something they really cannot stop. Stopping means they suffer. It hurts them physically to be without their drug. Because their brain has been convinced that they NEED this drug, alcohol, or food to survive. But I certainly understand why you would be frustrated when you have a disease that you were born with.
