2013 UVA Focused Ultrasound Center Evening Symposium

The symposium will feature the following:

–  Sessions on early translational and pre-clinical focused ultrasound studies. Talks will be given by investigators from UVa, as well as from other institutions in the mid-Atlantic region.

– Presentation topics will include, but are not limited to:

     MR imaging and technology development for use in focused ultrasound applications

¨      focused ultrasound-targeted drug and gene delivery

¨      nanoemulsion approaches for improved focal heating

¨      pain palliation procedures for osteoarthritis and sacroiliitis

¨      focused ultrasound for MR-guided blood brain barrier opening

¨      energy deposition by focused ultrasound for immunotherapy

¨      emerging functional neurosurgery applications

¨      focused ultrasound settings for brain tumor ablation

¨      defining and expanding the “treatment envelope” for brain applications

¨      updates on ongoing clinical trials for essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease at UVa will also be provided.

–  Dinner will be provided free of charge to registered attendees.

– Parking in 11th Street Garage (hourly fee charged.)

 The 11th Street Parking Garage is #39 on the map; (117 11th Street Southwest Charlottesville, VA 22903) Jordan Hall Conference Center is in Jordan Hall, #16 on the map and McKim Hall is #18 on the map.

 

 From the North (US 29)

 Stay on US 29, which become Emmet Street.  Turn left at University Ave which then becomes West Main Street.  Turn right on 11th Street, parking garage is on your right.

  From the South (Via US 29)

      Take the first exit past the I-64 interchange onto Business 29, Fontaine Ave.  Turn right at the bottom of the off-ramp and proceed straight on Fontaine Ave.  Fontaine Ave becomes Jefferson Park Ave, and then bears right.  Continue on Jefferson Park Ave until it joins West Main Street, turn right.  Your next signal will be 11th Street, turn right with the parking garage on your right.

  From the East or West (Via I-64)

      Take exit 118 B (US 29).  Take the first exit onto Business 29, Fontaine Ave.  Turn right at the bottom of the off-ramp and proceed straight on Fontaine Ave.  Fontaine Ave becomes Jefferson Park Ave, and then bears right.  Continue on Jefferson Park Ave until it joins West Main Street, turn right.  Your next signal will be 11th Street, turn right with the parking garage on your right.

  How to get  from the 11th Street Parking Garage to Jordan Hall Conference Center:

 a. walking from the 11th Street Garage toward the Emergency Department, follow the road along the train tracks until you get to Lane Road.  Turn right onto Lane Road and walk toward Jefferson Park Avenue.  A glass overpass/walkway connects Jordan Hall Conference Center to MR-5.  If you are walking from the 11th Street Garage outdoors, Jordan Hall Conference Center will be on your right as you walk down the sidewalk.

  b.  walking from the 11th Street Garage to the Main Hospital entrance, enter and walk past the cafeteria entrance and around the corner keeping right (cafeteria seating will be on your right with large glass windows on your left.  Keep walking straight through the “link” (a walkway/overpass that links one building to the other).  At the end of the link, you'll be in Jordan Hall and you'll see signs pointing to Jordan Hall Conference Center.  Keep walking around the winding hallway until you get to two double doors on the left.  Walk through the open doors and you will be on the 2nd floor of Jordan Hall Conference Center.
