Virginia Custody Question?

Question by DrSasha: Virginia Custody Question?
I have sole custody of our six children. My ex husband doesn’t like paying child support and wants joint custody. For a numerous reasons, this is NOT what’s best for our children, ages 4-12. I have no record, abuse, alcohol, or drug issues. What are his chances if it goes to court?
I still encourage frequent visitation with their dad. He has never been an active parent and I have been the primary caregiver for 12 years. The instability in insecurities arising are negatively impacting the children.

*note: I don’t think it’s my job as their mother to do what’s EASIEST for me, but rather what’s BEST for them.
He will not move to the same school district as he is living rent free with his girlfriend and her four small children.

Why don’t you want to have joint custody with the father ? custody only has a little to do with support .. just because he shares joint custody he still has to keep them 1/2 the time to get a discount on the support ..so whats the big deal ? it will make your life easier and you can make him live in the same school district and what not i am not really sure why you say it is not best for the children.having both parents in the life of your children is what is best and that is what a judge will tell you .. however he must pay support .
