Question by Autumn: What do i have to do to become a substance abuse counselor?

I live in Texas. what kind of classes would i have to take in collge? how long would i have to be in college? I am planning on taking psychology next year if that helps anything!

I recommend trying, “using”, most drugs before going to school for this. Schooling could last you up to 5 years due to distractions caused by using whatever drugs you find suitable to build your knowledge. But if you hit it hard I believe you can be very successful.

You might need a Masters in Social work or a Licensed Clinical Social worker.You might also have to take State Board exams also.
It might be 6 years to be in college total.
You might need a lot more classes besides psychology or sociology.
You might need to do a practicum also.

I would talk to a college professor in Social Work to have him or her give you more information.
I don’t think anyone would hire you if you didn’t have the necessary requirements.
Be prepared to work in “bad” neighborhoods or with low income families also. Be able to handle stressful situations also.
