Would You Consider Me to Be “addicted” to Marijuana?

Question by Abbie: Would you consider me to be “addicted” to marijuana?
[rewrite]Here’s the thing–I used to suffer from insomnia, depression, and anxiety, paired with lack of appetite and dangerous weight loss.

I am on an antidepressant, Paxil. It is said to be one of the most difficult drugs to stop taking if you decide you don’t want to have it in your system anymore. It does help with my social anxiety.

However, for about the past year, I have been using marijuana to help me with my appetite and my sleeping issues. Basically, after all my daily tasks are taken care of, I smoke a bowl then make my dinner. And by the time I am done eating and have gotten ready for bed I am sleepy and am able to go right to sleep, usually around 10pm.

I ran out of marijuana a week or two ago. I forgot what it was like before I smoked marijuana daily. I am nauseous, have no appetite, and it is now 1:40am and I couldn’t be more awake at the moment. I have class at 8:00am tomorrow.

Here’s my question:
If I don’t function well without marijuana, does that mean I am addicted to it? Or does marijuana simply provide a short-term treatment for my problems?

I grew up in Montana, where medical marijuana is legal. But I just moved to Utah, where it is most definitely not. If marijuana were socially acceptable, then would the need to smoke a bowl at the end of the night be any different than the need to drink a beer at the end of the day?
Just because I have class, doesn’t mean I am young or immature. I am in college-22 years old. Thank you, though, for your input.
Which is worse? A marijuana habit or an addiction to anti-depressants and sleep aids such as trazadone?

A drug habit is a drug habit is a drug habit. At school going age you do not have enough brains (immature) to know what is real, what is bull and what is made up in your head. Most of your complains, are habits you created yourself, and only yourself can unlearn said habits.
Peace.

Get therapy, before you have to chance to the HEAVY stuff.

Yes, you are in fact addicted to Marijuana. Don’t listen to people who say Marijuana isn’t addictive. People can get addicted to just about anything. Drugs, sex, music(yep), videogames, computer/internet, romance, especially anything that releases Dopamine into your brain (Fun fact: drugs are called dope because they release dopamine, you then get addicted to the dopamine and you become so dependent on it that the brain doesn’t release dopamine on it’s own anymore, which means addiction, but of course you probably already knew that.)

I’d say Marijuana is less socially acceptable only because it’s illegal. And as you, me, and everyone else knows, marijuana has no dangers; and alcohol (beer) does. Socially, and by law, a toke or two of marijuana is worse than a can of bruskee. But when it comes to health, weed is definitely better.

My tip to you? Well that depends on if you want to quit or not. If you want to eventually quit, then slowly ween yourself off of it over time. If you enjoy smoking it, them just-a-keep-on-a-puffin. Lol.
